Paul Holmes

Paul was involved in over 100 productions during his lifetime.

He stared in dozens of productions notably as Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady and King Arthur in Camelot, for the Regals and the Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance for Miranda Musical Society. Paul also shone in Crown Matrimonial for The Guild Theatre and Come Blow Your Horn with Strathfield Light Opera.

His contribution to community theatre extended to backstage, front of house, helping with bump ins and bump outs as a dedicated society member should. He was a hard-working member of Management Committees both with Regals and Miranda Musical Societies.

Among his committee positions were : Treasurer of Regals Musical Society from 1982-1985, Vice President and President of Miranda Musical Society. Paul appeared in TV commercials and his friends enjoyed seeing him in his green leotard as Mr Australia for AGL.

He also had small roles in Water Rats and various other shows, but his last TV venture was playing Reverend Greene in A Place to Call Home, a role which he cherished.

Paul also sang for years in various nursing homes, he freely gave of his time and talents wherever he was needed. Paul was much in demand as an entertainer and never underestimated how much it meant to the elderly to hear the songs and Christmas carols of their youth. His mother beamed with pride whenever he sang at her nursing home.

Paul’s last working venue was the Sydney Opera House as Front of House Attendant and also as Tour Guide. He knew he had made it when he worked there, especially with the ghost of Dame Joan around the building. This was his heaven.

He was a mentor, a worker, a leader and a friend to the musical and dramatic theatre world. Whether behind the scenes, front of house, in front of the orchestra or as leading man onstage he loved it all and gave it his all.
